Lately, I’ve been obsessed with burgers (I know, not very womanly). Fortunately, with the number of burger trucks popping up in Western Sydney, dinner has been an easy task. However, as the burger trucks only open for dinner, the only option for burgers before 6pm has been the dreaded golden arches (which I’ve decided to boycott).
Well, I’m pleased to say, I’ve finally found a solution for these pre-dinner burger cravings at Black Elk Espresso in Carnes Hill! Best of all, it’s not just the burgers that are great, everything else I’ve had on the menu has not disappointed.

I don’t usually expect much from cafe burgers, but this one was a pleasant surprise. Juicy patties, tasty sauce and caramelised onions make this burger absolutely irresistible. The ingredients complement each other so well and the soft brioche bun makes it easy to hold everything together (no more fumbling around with a fork and knife – this is easy to hold and eat). The bonus onion rings were extremely cute and made the presentation so thoughtful. On top of everything, the battered fries were super crunchy and some of the best fries I’ve had in a while. I will definitely order this one again.
The super crunchy thick-cut chicken makes this burger so delicious. I loved how thick the chicken was because it kept it’s moisture in the middle and wasn’t dry at all. The peri peri sauce gave a kick of spice which was balanced perfectly with the avocado. The guys at Black Elk definitely didn’t hold back on the avocado, with a thick layer of smashed avo on the bottom of the burger, that could be tasted with every bite. Definitely one of the best chicken burgers I’ve had in a while and as mentioned above, the fries are amazing!
A refreshing mix of Watermelon, Strawberry, Apple and Orange. The juice comes in a generous sized jar. Probably one of the biggest servings I’ve had at a cafe.
This was just a typical iced latte. Maybe because I drank it too slowly, it tasted watered down. I will have to try this again and give a revised review. Serving was good.
