After multiple recommendations from friends, I finally found a chance to pop by this relatively new cafe in the small suburb of Canley Vale. Unlike it’s more popular brother, Canley Heights, the food scene in Canley Vale has been pretty quiet in recent years. This is quite surprising, considering Canley Vale is easily accessible by public transport and there is plenty of street and off-street parking.
Canley Vale is one of those places that don’t change often. Every time I visit, it looks pretty much the same and some of the stores are so old you feel like you are still in the 90’s. So it was weird to find a modern cafe pop up in this suburb where time seems to have stood still.
The young staff at this cafe are full of smiles and very friendly. They do not take orders at the table, but it’s not difficult ordering at the counter and they bring out your food when it is ready. The presentation of the food is super instagrammable and there are a good selection of drinks. Plus, atmosphere is so laid back it’s great for catching up with friends. They are even open for dinner if you aren’t a morning person.
ITEMS WE’VE TRIED
Here are some dishes we’ve tried (♥ = my rating, ♠ = AK’s rating). I will update this every time we visit, so check back often. Click on the dishes to jump to photos and reviews.
Chia Pudding ♥♥♥♥ – Coconut and almond chia, house granola, fruits and toasted coconut crumble. [$14]
Truffle Fries ♥♥♥.5 – Shoestring fries with truffle mayo. [$6.5]
Green Tea Milkshake ♥♥♥♥ [$6]
This was my first time having chia pudding so taste-wise, I don’t think I can give a fair judgment. In general, I felt it was a little too sweet for a main and after I finished, my palate really craved something savoury. It still tasted great, but personally, this reminded me more of a dessert than a breakfast dish. On the other hand, the serving was very generous with fruits and the presentation was super pretty – topped with edible flowers and dried fruits.
As mentioned above, the sweetness from the chia pudding left me craving something savoury, so we decided to order a serving of the popular truffle fries to share. The truffle mayo was delicious, but unfortunately not enough. There was only a light drizzle of mayo on top which left two-thirds of the serving plain. If you are sharing with others, you better be quick to grab the few that are mayo-covered, or else it’s like eating Macca’s fries.
Green Tea Milkshake
Just like any other Green Tea/Matcha Milkshake/Latte. I am a huge fan of this drink and the great thing is it tastes similar in most places. I liked the addition of whipped cream on top and the serving was decent. The only downside was my drink had a few clumps of powder that didn’t get dissolved properly.
