Valentine’s Day 2017: Gift Ideas For The Foodie

Oh, Valentine’s Day…You either LOVE it or HATE it. What started off as a day to honour a saint, became romanticized in the 14th century into an international day of LOVE and is now the favourite day for many people. If your other half is a foodie, here are some gift ideas to inspire you:

Create a Personalised Recipe Book

Using Blurb.com, create a personalised recipe book with all of your partner’s favourite recipes. Add in your own illustrations, tips, notes and hidden messages for them to find. If you know how to use indesign, install their plug-in to have more control over your design.

Buy Them a Book Instead

If your partner likes learning about food and being inspired by food, how about picking out a food-related book for them instead. Here are some great foodie reads (click on the images to buy):

The World Atlas of Coffee James Hoffman

For the coffee lover – learn how coffee is harvested, processed, roasted and brewed – country to country.

Food Trails Lonely Planet

Get Them a Traditional Gift (With a Twist)

We all know that flowers and chocolates are the traditional Valentine’s gifts, why not step it up a notch?

Make Your Own Chocolates

Have you ever tried making your own chocolate? If you want a real challenge, you can make your own chocolate from scratch by following this recipe. Otherwise, an easier option is to buy any chocolate bar of choice, melt it down and shape it into a shape of your choice. It looks super thoughtful and fancy. You could even add jelly, honeycomb, hundreds and thousands, sprinkles…whatever you can think of (that’s edible, of course) to the chocolate and customise it to your liking. Here are some molds I found to get you started (make sure to turn off adblocker to see molds available on Amazon):

If you don’t have access to Amazon, try searching on Ebay or AliExpress (click on the images below to buy):
